4-Track / 32-Bit Float Mobile Recording
Professional Performance.
Always on Hand.

The DR-40XP is your go-to 4-track field recorder – built for musicians, videographers and anyone who wants to capture brilliant audio on the move with total reliability. It combines adjustable stereo microphones with low-noise HDDA mic preamps, plus XLR/TRS inputs with phantom power, so you’re ready for almost any recording setup.

With 32-bit float recording at sampling rates up to 96 kHz, you get clean, distortion-free audio even in challenging environments. Add in long battery life and a USB-C audio interface option, and it’s a solid choice for both recording in the field and working in the studio.

From Performance to Production, Anywhere

Capture everything from acoustic guitar, piano and vocals, strings and brass, orchestras, to DJ sets, band live shows and rehearsals, lessons, competitions and music production with professional-level sound quality. The DR-40XP features HDDA mic preamps, four-track recording, overdub and overwrite functions, reverb effects, and a built-in tuner. Connect directly to your iPhone or laptop via USB-C and use it as an audio interface to start composing instantly in your favourite DAW.

Professional Audio That Elevates Your Video

Designed with video creators, YouTubers and vloggers in mind, the DR-40XP features adjustable stereo microphones with X-Y mode for interviews and vlogs, and A-B mode for capturing immersive ambience in live and on-location scenes.

XLR/TRS inputs support external shotgun microphones, while improved clock accuracy, a slate tone for audio-video sync, and a mini-jack stereo line output help take your video production to the next level.

Built for Field Recording – Wherever Sound Takes You

Compact and portable, the DR-40XP offers up to 30 hours of battery life with built-in microphones that handle up to 125 dB SPL, capturing everything from subtle birdsong to loud aircraft and vehicle noise.

With 32-bit float recording at up to 96 kHz, it delivers clean, distortion-free audio, while dual external inputs with +48 V phantom power support flexible, professional field recording setups.

Pristine Audio, Every Take

Equipped with Tascam’s HDDA microphone preamps, the DR-40XP features XLR/TRS combo inputs with an Equivalent Input Noise of –126 dB, delivering exceptionally clear, low-noise audio performance.

Worry-Free Recording Formats

With 32-bit float recording, your audio stays clean, detailed, and free from distortion – without the need to worry about input level settings. Multiple recording formats are supported, including 32-bit float, 24-bit, and 16-bit WAV at 96 kHz, 48 kHz, or 44.1 kHz, as well as MP3.

Adjustable Stereo Condenser Microphones

The DR-40XP features RF-resistant unidirectional stereo condenser microphones supporting A-B and X-Y stereo configurations, enabling accurate and faithful sound capture across a wide range of applications. This makes it ideal for recording electric guitar, piano, vocals, drums and full band performances, as well as for field recordings of ocean waves, birdsongs, vehicle sounds and interviews.

External Inputs

The DR-40XP is equipped with XLR/TRS combo jacks that support 48 V or 24 V phantom power for external condenser or dynamic microphones. When set to line level, these inputs accept signals from a mixing desk or other source with levels up to +24 dBu.

These two inputs can be used in parallel with the built-in microphones to create a 4-track recording.
